Metal and Wire Theft Reward Program

On October 21, 2025, the City Council enacted the Metal and Wire Theft Reward Program for payment of rewards to persons who have provided information resulting in the identification, apprehension and conviction of the person or persons who have committed acts of metal and wire theft. The effective date of the amended Ordinance is May 20, 2026.  The City may pay a reward of $1,000 for information that leads to the identification, arrest, and conviction of any person or persons who has or have committed acts of metal and wire theft classified as a misdemeanor.  A reward of $5,000 may be paid for information leading to the same outcomes for thefts classified as a felony.  The reward may also apply if the case results in a final adjudication by the Juvenile Court or placement on a supervised program by a probation officer in accordance with the California Welfare and Institutions Code.

Any person who provides information identifying an individual or individuals involved in metal or wire theft must complete the Application for Special Reward Payment Form.  If the applicant is under 18 years of age, a parent or legal guardian must also sign the form to indicate consent.  The completed form shall be mailed to the Department at the address indicated on the form within 60 days of the reported Act.

The Police Department, in consultation as needed with the Offices of the City Attorney and District Attorney, the Probation Department, and the Juvenile Court, shall determine whether the information provided led to the identification, apprehension, and conviction of any person involved in metal or wire theft.  The City Council shall have final determination and sole discretion as to whether the information provided meets the intent of the reward program and approve or deny a monetary award.
